Obama’s Wisconsin Campaign Director won’t pay the bills September 24, 2008

Barack Obama’s campaign is in a tough fight for Wisconsin’s 10 Electoral Votes.  Throughout the last few months, the Wisconsin for Obama campaign has been attacking John McCain with its tough TV and Radio Ads, spending hundreds of thousands of dollars for a ground game of campaign headquarters and grassroots programs and of course, throwing its weight of support toward increasing Wisconsin voter fraud.

So what does the man who runs this Wisconsin operation do when he’s confronted with a typical utility bill?

Wisconsin State Director of the Obama Campaign, Dan Kanninen just won’t pay it.

Kanninen was a former staffer for a very liberal State Senator Bob Jauch and campaign staffer for Governor Jim Doyle.  While most folks across Wisconsin are at least trying to support a family, maintain a family business, or just simply trying to keep the lights on, the Obama campaign picked a state director who just doesnt like to pay the bills.  In 2003, Kanninen failed to pay nearly $620 to Madison Gas & Electric for utilities at his $700 per month University Ave high rise apartment in Madison.  No worries, his bill was garnished from his cushy state job-chief of staff salary.

But what does this all mean?  The leader of Obama’s Wisconsin Campaign is irresponsible.  Everyone has missed a payment before but when a man who’s running a statewide campaign for a Presidential Candidate has a history of not paying, Kanninen is self promoter of what he wants Wisconsin to be.  Ultimately, he’s missing the detail and in Wisconsin politics, everything is in the details.

Governor Doyle’s DNC Speech used “Wisconsin” only 5 times. September 3, 2008

Governor Jim Doyle’s DNC Convention speech (see transcript here), drafted by a salaried speech from the office of the Governor only metioned the word “Wisconsin” 5 times.  The speech also mentioned John McCain 3 times and references Bush/Cheney’s administration.

Even GAB Attorney Jon Becker, had a small statement regarding the speech:

“So if I was having my staff write a speech to read at a political convention, that would be bothersome to me”  -GAB Attorney Jonathan Becker

He cautioned that such a speech might not violate the ethics code if it focused on state issues and policy matters rather than partisan attacks.  Since he didn’t mention anything about Wisconsin’s rising unemployment, he really didn’t talk about state issues.  All he mentioned was a small gear company in Antigo, WI called Merit Gear.  Doyle just recently issued that company a $750,000 grant for expansion.

Joe, now a Republican? Nope, just a another Lieberman Humdrum September 3, 2008

“What after all, is a Democrat like me doing at a Convention like this?”

No worries, he just showed up to the RNC to support John McCain and of course, to get Democrats to vote for a Republican.  But since his 2004 victory with John Kerry in Wisconsin, why isn’t the old Joe in the state more, conducting townhall meetings in mid-small media markets?  Just a suggestion maybe.

We certainly weren’t expecting a Zel Miller speech.  Hell, that actually scared us all back in 2004.  We initially tought we could expect maybe a crossover like the great 94 West $1 million dollar boondoggle to make sure WI’s bureaucrats got to work on time to Madison during the flooding.  But at the end of the day, it wasn’t just another Joe Lieberman humdrum, it maybe swayed a few Democrats.  But instead of going after Democrats, the GOP and McCains campaign needs to put together a solid plan, with Palin leading, to reach out and get the Social Conservatives energized and organized.  Period.

Grandma Blames “Obama-Biden” on Edwards August 25, 2008

After spending a warm, sunny summer weekend with my family in Northern Wisconsin (notice how we capitalize the N on northern), I ran into one individual who falls into the 18% of Hillary voters who will be backing the “old man” on November 4th.

My 74 year old Grandma.  Don’t worry, this picture of an obviously senile old woman, isn’t the real Grandma.

After numerous political conversations that led to a very upset Grandma- who has always voted Democrat-her dissatisfaction grew to outrage with the latest Saturday morning news  of Obama picking Joe Biden as his “Veep-mate.”  That cute old Grandma, a staunch Clinton Democrat, is now a stick of dynamite with an even shorter fuse.  Let’s just say she’s not as lethal as Wisconsin’s McCain Democratic Delegate  but she’s still potent and came to a brilliant revelation to extinguish her dissatisfaction.

She blames Edwards.

More precisely, the “lyin, no-good-cheatin, John Edwards and his ‘Cronies’.”  And she’s somewhat correct.  If the news on Edwards and his campaign-videographer gone mistress  would have broke in early January, maybe it would have ended as a late Christmas present for Hillary.  She would have maybe pulled off Iowa and the daunting news on Edwards would have taken away from the glamorous Obama who captivated Democratic voters during the following weeks.  Her extended victories or near misses would have energized even more of her voters to turn out or at the very least given more money so Clinton’s debt wouldn’t be where it is today.

But the Grandma revelation is clearly a “what if” situation.  The reality is that Obama, even with his white haired, more experienced Joe Biden will have a difficult time in Wisconsin with Blue Collar, white voters.

Because of this, we give the Milk to McCain right now and the Cheese, well, Grandma’s serving that to O’Biden.

Sure and obviously other crucial decisions will also be above the Senator’s paygrade.  Obama’s answer may has been called the weakest response to an abortion or life question in campaign history.  The Saddleback Presidential Forum (read the transcript here), hosted by Pastor Rick Warren, is the most important presidential candidate event to date in this election cycle.  His questions have shined the light on these candidates and have demonstrated clear distinctions between Barack Obama and John McCain.  It may be enough to get Evangelicals excited about November 4th.  Watch the side-by-side response to Pastor Warren’s question here:

After the post about Fond du Lac Dem’s Chair, Rich Mantz who recently filed a complaint with the GAB against State Senate candidate Randy Hopper and Rep. John Townsend, we uncovered a little more trash that washed up on the beautiful shores of Lake Winne-Septic.  This time, it’s Winnebago County Democrats Chairman Jef Hall (that’s right, One F).  Before we begin to moderate on this guy, we’re just going to assume and we would like you to follow, that the Democratic Party of Wisconsin probably hand picked these folks from the local trailer park to lead a political party.

Anyways, Jef Hall, the Winnebago County Democratic Party Chairman and also Winnebago County’s 17th District Supervisor is the finest leader for such a critical area of the state for the party.  His qualifications amount to his driving skills- Jef has an incredible driving history.  In fact, why not drive voter fraud to the polls in Oshkosh without a drivers license?  It makes perfect sense!

Hey Donors to the Winnebago County Democratic Pary- don’t worry.  Jef will make sure the county office isn’t  paid for and that your donations are safe because Jef has impeccable record keeping skills.  He’ll make sure that those big, bad utility companies and landlords don’t get paid.  In fact, instead of working as a telemarketer, he may start up a consulting firm for advising corporations on how to garnish wages.  If the Dems also need to write bad checks, (Hell, every Democratic Congressman needs a “bad check writer“) make sure you call Jef, his number is (920) 231-9232 and that’s if it’s still working 🙂

Jef’s also an asset for opposition research.  He knows how to trespass and get caught (here’s the “scoop”)

To sum it all up, this is an incredibly fine leader who represents the Winnebago County Democratic Party.  Remember, this is one of two profiles of the dem’s county leaders.  We can only conclude that it just must be something in the water in the Fox Valley.  And if you’re a moderate this election cycle and you’re considering turning blue, this is one of your new leaders.  Can’t wait to see what the other counties turn up……

At least Edwards had the courtesy…….. August 14, 2008

Fond du Lac Dems: The Best of the Best? August 12, 2008

Yesterday, the Fond du Lac Democratic party‘s fearless Chairman, Richard L. Mantz, filed this complaint with the Wisconsin Government Accountability Board against Representative John Townsend and State Senate candidate, Randy Hopper

The complaint alleges that Randy Hopper and Representative Townsend used the assemblyman’s state capitol office to discuss Randy Hopper’s campaign for the 18th Senate seat.  The allegations stem from a WisEye candidate video in which Hopper states that ” We went to lunch and then we went back to his office and shut his door so we could talk about what I needed to do in the campaign.”   This is not a baseless complaint, since Hopper admitted to using a taxpayer office to discuss campaign plans.   Clearly, Randy Hopper needs alot of work and needs to be scripted.  At least they had the courtesy of shutting the office door.

On the other hand, the complaint was filed by one of the most reckless leaders of the Wisconsin Democratic Party, Richard L. Mantz of 237 East Ninth Street, Fond du Lac, WI 54935 who certainly outshines this minimal GAB complaint with his current and past legal issues.  Let’s just say, while Hopper made a minor mistake in his interview, this guy has made some strategic errors at life.

In late May, 2008, the Wisconsin Department of Workforce development filed a $614 judgement against Mantz for not paying Unemployment Compensation.  The Judge even issued a warrant for Mantz.  Looks like he’s off on the right foot for shorting his share of government taxes and fee obligations.

On top of that, the Marine Credit Union filed a Small Claims judgement  against Mantz for nearly $1,000.  Looks like he’s not keeping up with his payments.  For the sake of principle, we sure hope Rich doesn’t stiff over his own party and pays his delegate fees for the 2008 Democratic Convention in Denver.  Don’t worry, there’s a little more.

Then in 2002 case of the State of WI vs. Mantz, he was extradited to for a serious complaint so severe it could have been a felony.  The details on the case are not clear however, at the time, Judge Robert Wirtz set a hefty $5,000 cash bond on Mantz over the hearing.  In another 2001 State of Wisconsin case vs. the Democratic party official, Mantz was charged with disorderly conduct and criminal damage to property.  Looks like the GOP has their number one suspect for any complaints of damaged yard signs for this Fall and the Obama camp maybe should reconsider letting Mantz participate in driving staff vehicles in the motorcade.

The question: Is this really the best the Democrats can get for party leadership?  Remember, this is a guy who has the ear of many politicians in the Fox Valley.
